My name is Chris Roche, and I love Art.
In 2009 I graduated from the Maine College of Art in Portland, Maine with an honors degree in sculpture and a minor in Art History. I ran off for a year to join AmeriCorps NCCC, where I participated in disaster relief, community development and nature preservation in different states around the Midwest and the South. Currently, I’m a volunteer at the Wayne Fire Department and am a nationally certified EMT.
Recently, my focus has been on new media and digital arts, but I have a history of work in traditional media. I’m interested in the natural evolution of art as history has unfolded into cascading patterns. In the renaissance, people were reluctant to paint shadows and highlights because it challenged the preconceptions of the middle ages. Movers of Avant Garde were accused of trying to destroy the institution of art. Even television was branded as corrupting the mind and cheapening art when first introduced. Today, the challenges that interactive media faces is just another step in the evolution of art. This is a challenge I love to face head-on, and am prepared to advocate for digital popular art until it is accepted as the next natural step in human expression.
The work displayed on this website reflects some of my portfolio highlights, and I hope you enjoy what you see.
